On Etsy: Whitney Smith

Why I love it: I have been reading Whitney Smith's blog for quite some time now, and have been meaning to include her work on (Mud)Bucket just as long. More than being a fabulous potter, Whitney is a most incredible business woman. She shares so much advice and insight on her blog, This Artist's Life, it's an invaluable resource for potters today.  I love her work because it looks like such an incredibly modern interpretation of traditional asian ceramic styles: celedon, porcelain, cherry blossom motifs, floral shape inspirations. It's all so feminine and sharp at the same time. I also really dig the fact that Whitney has a registry available for her work. What a clever idea! Why don't more potters offer this? Also, if you want to read a great interview with this hardworkin' gal, check it out on sfgirlbybay.

P.S. Doesn't Whitney take wonderful product photos?

Why I like it: It is when I see work like this that I am reminded why I love ceramics so much. The possibilities are endless and unknown, the beauty is absolute magic. The way the glazes interact on these cups, the gorgeous fluidity of the shapes, the bold choice in colors, and the subtle yet striking textural accents just blow me away.  I'm going to add, that all these pieces above are available for sale  as of now on Etsy. Also, as usual, if you'd like to see the larger version just click on he photo. These cups really deserve to be enjoyed more closely.

Why I like it: Because these forms and colors and glazing are all just so incredibly beautiful. As it that even needed saying. You should definitely read his blog, it's chock full of beautiful imagery, work in progress, and tricks and techniques. Killer.

On Etsy: Scott Jennings

I'm really excited to share with you the work of one of my new studio mates. I stumbled accross Jennings' Etsy shop the other day out of nowhere and thought to myself, 'Hey, I know that guy!' I can't even express here how beautiful his work is. What is really refreshing is that Jennings creates these incredibly delicate pieces, but still manages to leave his work with a modern and masculine feel. I'm so happy to be working in a space with so many great artists like Jennings. So lucky.

Why I like it: Well, for one, I love bright colors, especially of the primary variety.  Secondly, bold patterns make me go gaga.  Thirdly, I totally have a soft spot in my heart for country birds like chickens and woodpeckers. Furthermore, Snow articulates her ideas with such precision and consistency that it sets her work apart from many of her peers.  And her bold designs are fearless. And Snow throws, alters, and hand-carves every single piece. This girl's got skillz and talent.

On Etsy: Mudpuppy

Etsian Michael McDowell had his shop, Mudpuppy, featured on Etsy a couple days ago... Read the interview here and then check our McDonald's shop. He mostly sells miniatures for terrariums in his Etsy shop, but I'm a big fan of his creepy dollhead planters and his hanging jellyfish. Michael also has a sweet blog if you want to know more of what he's up to...

On Etsy: Redasch Redware

Why I like it: I'm just loving the modern takes I'm seeing lately on earthenware. I love the texture that the appliques create and the color of the glazes on Kari Radasch's work. Her pieces look good enough to eat, but I guess that's exactly what Radasch intends. I'm also a sucker for gold luster. Read a fun little article on her technique here at Ceramic Arts Daily.

On Etsy: Kristin Pavelka

These are just lovely.  The shapes are so... chubby. And the patterns and colors so delicate.  These are very feminine vessels and another example of gorgeous earthenware work.  Visit Pavelka's Etsy shop here.
