Racism.
Kinda off subject but nonetheless, something I think is very important. Read my post here.
What don't you get? Did you read any of the blog posts I referred to? I think it's pretty straight forward if you read Alexis' and Meaghan's posts.
Appropriation of a phrase of reclamation by a 'group of oppressors' from a 'group of the oppressed' is inappropriate. A white person appropriating the word 'nigga'- inappropriate; a straight person appropriating the word 'fag'- inappropriate; a male person appropriating the term 'bitch'- inappropriate. These are all terms which have been used against communities but have been resurrected and reclaimed by said communities to help unite each other against hatred and be strong and heal so that we, all of us as a nation, can progress in how we treat one another.
I want to clarify, I do not mean to say that all white people, straight people, and men are actively oppressing others. That is ridiculous. But as a whole, in our nation, people of color, queer people, and women (and people with disabilities, the homesless, etc) have been treated as less viable and less important contributors to this great nation. And that's putting it nicely; may I remind you that people of color and queers are still in danger of being lynched in many parts of this country and that domestic violence is still rampant in our society.
I am also not saying, which many white folks freak out about when this topic comes up, that people of color, women, queers are exempt from engaging in racism, homophobia, ablism, clacism, and misogyny. Communities of the oppressed often engage in oppression themselves, think about the fact that abuse propagates abuse. But that does not nullify or make acceptable further oppression by anyone.
Okay, I need to go take a shower and get to work, but I hope that helped!
Try to make good pottery, and leave the axe grinding to someone else. Maybe you could mind your own business,instead of trying to tell the whole world how THEY should think and live.

You know... I just erased the response I left last night to Anonymous 3:17. It wasn't bad, it just was too much. The comment is really to ridiculous to warrant a lengthy response.

Sorry, I'm 48 and just didn't understand the T shirt. In my world "Knitta" didn't ring a bell. I have a clear understanding of racism.
