Chris Antemann

I'm really interested in the excavation of the porcelain figurine in contemporary ceramics right now. Chris Antemann is getting a lot of attention for her work right now and I'm actually quite fond of it myself.  I enjoy the scenes she creates and think some of them are quite interesting takes on modern concepts of gender and sexuality.

Lois Harbaugh

I really enjoy the combination of raw and glazed ceramic surface.  I also really love the juxtaposition of classical or refined shapes and contemporary imagery. The latter seems to be appearing more and more in contemporary ceramic art. Sometimes this pairing is done seamlessly and provokes real contemplation and discussion... other times I think it's just like cutting shapes from a magazine and modge-podging them onto an otherwise beautiful vessel.

How do you think this style works best?

Rebekah Bogard

Whimsy, earthenware, bright colors, it's no wonder I love Bogard's sculptures. But I think it's the gesture, relationships, and emotion which entangle these surreal figures that really legitimizes them. I would love to see these pieces in person one day and would equally love a workshop by Bogard.  I am so curious how she goes about developing her concepts, constructing these figures, and her finishing the surfaces (these are all cold finished). Scratch that, you can see exactly how she makes these sculptures on her website. Bogard has photo-documented the entire process. How lucky are we?

Off Subject: Cal Lane

Cal Lane is a rockstar. She's the sculptor girlfriend you always fantasized about in art school. Her work combines feminine delicacy and masculine crudity so incredibly well. I can't wait to see these works in person one day. Over a computer screen they blow my mind. I can't imagine how awesome the up close and personal experience is.

Stichter @ Slipcast

Matt over at Slipcast has a great post about the Beth Cavener Stichter show he recently saw in New York. Her new work looks as awesome as ever and I love what Matt has to say about it, too. You should head over...

Dewey Arsee

Okay... I don't really know who this guy is but I think I'm in love. I am a sucker for bold colors, line drawings, cultural reference, and smut. Please take a peak at the artist's website. His work is mostly erotic in nature, so be warned if you are easily queasy. But his work is bold. And I like that.
